For me, behaving in a “socially responsible manner” chiefly means not being indifferent to those who need help, to our surroundings, the environment, nature, community, and the society in which we live, and all the important aspects of life.

Introduction by Martin Diviš
1
Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Business Strategy
Social responsibility is an integral part of the company’s long-term strategy. Our ambition, which we fulfil every year, is to effect positive change wherever possible. We focus primarily on activities that have an impact on our employees, clients, and the public.
We have been operating on the market as a stable Czech insurance company for many years, thanks to the trust of our clients and partners. By the nature of its business, an insurance company is a responsible entity, because the principle of insurance is nothing less than offering help in need, solidarity in difficult life situations, mutual trust, and responsibility. Hence, part of our philosophy is to invest into beneficial initiatives and products or services, thus reflecting the principles of responsibility and sustainability. We also emphasise the importance of social impact, which can be verified and measured.
CSR vision
Our long-term objective is to fulfil the CSR vision as a business model and set the greatest possible number of processes at the insurance company so as to comply with socially responsible behaviour.

Code of Ethics
We respect ethical rules to maintain a healthy balance between the inner and outer world of our company. For this purpose, a set of rules of ethical conduct of our company was created.

Stakeholders and reputation
In 2020, we participated for the first time in the IPSOS CSR & Reputation Research Survey, which was conducted for the eleventh time. We took part in a study on the social responsibility of large companies and their impact on corporate reputation, from the perspective of both the public and experts.

2
PREVENTION AND RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
Prevention
Prevention is the starting point of our strategic CSR pyramid, on which all other activities are based. We understand prevention as the prevention of adverse situations in all areas of insurance - property and liability, personal and car insurance, and elsewhere.
In 2020, the flagship in the field of prevention was the VISION 0 Platform, which aims for zero fatalities on Czech roads. We also focused intensively on the area of telematics, i.e., technology that allows us to evaluate driver behaviour on the road and then provide feedback. Our massive testing and data evaluation confirmed that the implementation of telematics elements into insurance has the potential to significantly reduce accident rates, especially for young drivers.
Among our other CSR activities, in cooperation with the Kooperativa Foundation, we provided free collision insurance for 104 vehicles. This was arranged by companies from the Škoda Auto Group, which provided free food delivery and other services to seniors and other vulnerable groups during the spring wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
VISION 0 Platform
In 2018, the Kooperativa Foundation established the VISION 0 Platform, which functions as a non-commercial community of entities that support each other, coordinate projects, and share information and experience. The aim of this platform is to achieve systemic and conceptual changes in the field of transport safety.
YOUNG AND BEGINNERS DRIVERS
VISION 0 Platform is a partner of the Start Driving project managed by the Association of Driving Schools. It is a follow-up course for recent graduates of driving schools on polygons in the Czech Republic. The aim of the MY VISION ZERO competition was to involve students in the issue of road safety and improving the traffic situation in the Czech Republic.
SENIORS
We are involved in two projects funded from the Damage Prevention Fund. They both aim to contribute to reducing the accident rate for people over 65.
DRIVER HEALTH
We helped to launch the Don't Risk Your Neck project, aimed at developing a methodology to diagnose the presence of whiplash trauma in road accident participants. We have purchased a device that allows for early diagnosis of whiplash syndrome, the primary risk of which is that it only becomes apparent over time.
CYCLING
We take active part in the Helmet Only Cycling project, funded by the Damage Prevention Fund and coordinated by the Road Safety Team.
RAILWAY CROSSING
In cooperation with other entities, the VISION 0 Platform has established a working group to propose systemic technical measures that should contribute to reducing collisions at railway crossings. Another objective is to publicise the principles of safe behaviour at crossings.
TRAFFIC SAFETY TOPICS
We communicated current road safety issues in the media. We cooperated with all national television stations, radios, nationwide ad local print media, as well as a number of electronic news portals.
Further cooperation
IT CONNECT
We worked together with IT Connect to launch a car charger with a knife for safety belts and a spike with which to break windows in an emergency.
WORLD OF RESCUE WORKERS
We became partner to Asociace záchranný kruh (Lifebelts Association), which runs Svět záchranářů (World of Rescue Workers) in Karlovy Vary, where it develops and carries out a range of preventive education projects having to do with risks and dangers. The complex is focused on prevention, training, and practice for children and professional rescue workers alike.
METEOVAROVÁNÍ (WEATHER WARNING)
We offer our clients, in this case natural persons and now businesses having taken out property insurance, a free assistance card for the telephone called “Meteovarování” (Weather Warning), which is able to accurately determine any possible risk of bad weather - hail, gales, or torrential rain - according to the location of the insured property. It therefore acts as effective prevention of the consequences of natural disasters.
Responsible business
To us, responsibility in business means transparency in relation to all stakeholders, ethical conduct comporting with a code of ethics, and investment in opportunities that are effective not only financially, but also socially and environmentally.
Support of start-ups
We are well aware of the importance of start-ups and of young, innovative companies and we keep an eye on the latest trends in society, thanks to which we look for opportunities to improve our own services and products. This is one reason why the year 2020 was again one of support for innovation and innovative projects.
CZECH START-UP CONTEST
We announced our own start-up contest at the beginning of February 2020, distributing financial assistance to the most interesting projects.

We became partner to Inno Days in 2020, thereby supporting days dedicated to technology that can improve life in the city using artificial intelligence. As an insurance company, we understand that artificial intelligence is a form of technology that we will come across more and more often, and for this reason we support the area and keep an eye out for ways that we may use it.

ECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

When we talk about sustainability, we do not mean just sustainability of natural resources and environmental impact, for we also focus on long-term sustainability values such as fairness, transparency, and compliance with European and domestic regulators.

Ecology

Although we are not a manufacturing company that directly harms the environment through our activities, we are aware of the effect on our surroundings and have long been working to minimize any negative impact, whether it relates to the operation of buildings, vehicles or the activities of our employees. We strive to find sustainable environmental solutions in many areas, focusing particularly on ensuring sustainable solutions in the operation of our buildings, in the handling of IT equipment, as well as the use of flood maps in property insurance, and as much as possible the use of electronic communication instead of paper.
Carbon footprint
Since 2018, we have our carbon footprint measured, which quantifies the impact of human activity on the environment and climate change. Measuring our carbon footprint allows us to obtain detailed information about which activities contribute the most to CO2 emissions. As a result, we can focus on reducing our carbon footprint in specific areas.
In 2020, Kooperativa produced 10 978‚59 t CO2e*
Emissions are divided into three areas:

Scope 1: 1 731 t CO2e 15‚76 %

Scope 2: 5 048 t CO2e 45‚98 %

Scope 3: 4 200 t CO2e 38‚26 %

more about the calculation of CO2 emissions

*Emission factor = a constant that converts consumption units into greenhouse gas emissions.

The impact of our activities on CO2 production
Installation of photovoltaic panels
We are likewise interested in the efficient and sustainable use of technologies in practice, which is why we installed photovoltaic panels on the Agency building in West Bohemia in 2020. In addition to electricity supply and modernisation, this is an environmentally friendly solution that not only saves us money, but also significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the given building.

Photovoltaic panels will yearly save 12,9 tons of CO2.

Electronic communication with clients
The number of clients that have agreed to use electronic communication continues to increase. At the end of 2020, they amounted to more than 67%. As a result, we save a vast amount of material, work, and overall burden on the distribution of hardcopy documents.

January 2020: 1 568 413 (63,32 %) clients who consented to EC

December 2020: 1 641 573 (67,20 %) clients who consented to EC

Bike to work
Not just our logo is green. Kooperativa also upholds “green” solutions for transportation. During a three-month pilot project, Prague employees had the opportunity to use Rekola shared bicycles for private travel. Given the worsened situation around the COVID-19 pandemic, we offered this safe means of transport to all of our employees during the last month. A total of 366 half-hour trips were taken. In 2021, we hope to expand this project across the Czech Republic and amend the company’s internal guidelines, so that Rekola shared bikes can be used for business travel as well.

A total of 366 half-hour trips were taken

Electrical equipment
In 2020, we decided to donate several dozen eliminated units of electrical equipment to single parents who work at Kooperativa. Next year, we plan to expand this activity and make donations where needed, e.g., to non-profit organisations.
Sorting waste
We strive to support the sorting of waste in diverse ways. At the company headquarters, 92 large-capacity bins for sorted waste were added to expand the limited capacity of the baskets in the shared kitchenettes.
No food wastage
The catering operator of the canteen at Main Point Karlín has started using REkrabičky reusable meal boxes. These are designed to give employees the option of taking food home, and thus reduce wastage. REkrabičky reusable boxes are made of recycled materials in the Czech Republic.

Sustainability

In our view, sustainability is far more than just an issue of the environment or changes due to the climate crisis. We take account of the environmental context in terms of products, employee education and information for our clients. We also strive for sustainability in finance, investments, and communication with clients. We carefully examine all regulations, follow current developments in legislation, and meet all requirements.

Sustainable finance and investments

In 2020, thanks to the European Union's Regulation 2019/2088, we began to look even more closely at the Kooperativa's investments. Kooperativa has long been guided by the Investment and Risk Strategies Directive, which is in force at the VIG Group level and precisely defines the investment options, including the environmental and moral aspects of the investments.
In the context of EU Regulation 2019/2088 on sustainability-related disclosures in the financial services sector, we have formed a team across Kooperativa and are addressing "green" product options in addition to mandatory disclosures.
Reminder communication
We consistently advocate an approach in which the debtor is not the creditor's archenemy, but rather a partner. We always see our clients and their interests first, but our goal is not to make the debtor's life unpleasant through lawsuits and foreclosures. We are the only one on the market to have created a unique combination of internal reminders and enforcement steps that address the repayment of the debt.
The service reminding the client of overdue payments is set up in an efficient and pro-client manner at Kooperativa. The aim of the reminder service is to provide the client with a periodic payment reminder in suitable form, so that the insurance contract does not expire due to non-payment and the client remains our, ideally satisfied, customer. The client chooses the form of the reminder service.

DIVERSITY AND FLEXIBILITY IN RELATION TO EMPLOYEES

Equal opportunities for everybody and fair treatment of all employees are the alpha and omega of our HR philosophy.
In a year that has been difficult for everybody - individuals, institutions and governments - because of the global pandemic, we focussed on living up to our ambition to be among the most desirable employers and being a company that builds on the loyalty of its employees in all age categories. As an employer, we respect all the aspects of diversity, have significantly altered our approach to flexibility, and care about the health and lifestyle of our colleagues. Although most opportunities for education and development - both professional and in the area of soft skills - moved to the online environment, we continued to update their offer.

Diversity

In 2020, we were a signatory of the European Diversity Charter, and regularly engaged in discussion regarding the representation of women and men on various management levels, age management, employment of persons with disabilities or disadvantages, and so on.
Loyalty
At Kooperativa, it certainly applies that a company which is perceived as a good employer is formed by the people that work for it. Each employee contributes in their own way to our lasting success and development, and we are proud of this loyal relationship.
EMPLOYEES BY NUMBER OF YEARS IN THE COMPANY
Loyalty is one of our main traits, and one ain which we take great pride.
Diversity

Research has shown that there is a predominance of women employees in all age groups, but the management levels are dominated by men.

More women take advantage of part-time employment contracts, which account for 3% at the company.

REPRESENTATION IN MANAGEMENT POSITIONS
AGE STRUCTURE
Education
The structure of our employees’ education is related to the nature of the work performed – a university degree is not required for the female-dominated positions of client and insurance advisers
EMPLOYEES STRUCTURE OF EDUCATION ACHIEVED
However, knowledge of another nature is required, for example, in line with the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), all these employees must hold a Czech National Bank certificate and must pursue professional training on a sustained/continuous basis.
Maternity and parental leave

There are currently 319 employees on maternity leave/parental leave.

An average of 6 women went on maternity leave each month.

The average return rate is 4 female employees per month.

New employees

In the course of 2020, 558 new colleagues joined the company,.

of which 67 % were women.

Fluctuation

In 2020, 583 colleagues left the company

In most cases due to voluntary fluctuation.

The fluctuation rate was around 14‚37 %.

People with disabilities
As an employer that respects diversity, we seek to find opportunities to offer jobs to people with health disabilities or certain impairments. Currently, there are 76 female colleagues and 16 male colleagues with health disabilities working at the insurance company. Beyond the scope of benefits available to all employees, they receive greater support for stays at therapeutic facilities, compensatory aids, and preventive medical examinations, including rehabilitation.
OUR EMPLOYEES INCLUDE

109 employees already entitled to an old-age pension

92 disabled employees

273 employees on contracts for service or work agreements

Additional incorporation of disadvantaged persons is possible in cooperation with companies through substitute fulfilment - these are chiefly social enterprises that employ people with disabilities.

Compared to the year before, we addressed 11 companies more in 2020 and consequently cooperated with 26 companies that employ people with disabilities.

We support

CLUB OF WOMEN MANAGERS
The Club seeks to support development, education and networking among women managers and employees who have management potential.
SENIOR CLUB
We do not bid employees farewell at Kooperativa. We are in regular contact with several hundred former colleagues, even after they go into well-deserved retirement. Every year, we organise meetings for them, where they find out about the latest company news, and enjoy a cultural programme and the chance to network.
SINGLE PARENTS
In mid-2020, our HR specialists mapped the needs and expectations of single parents, which we will project into the revised structure of the benefit programme and advantages for employees in 2021.

Flexibility

In 2020, more than ever before, we took care to ensure the broadest range of options for our employees to find a balance between their professional and private lives. Nor did we forget to prepare a vast range of opportunities for professional and personal development through various educational tools.
FREE DAYS
3 days of paid leave per year (so-called free days) for everybody
a total of 9 370 days were used, which means 2.3 days days per employee
HOME OFFICE
In total, many more colleagues opted for the remote working mode of work in 2020 than in previous years.
CHARITY DAY
1 Day for a Better Life volunteer day (so-called charity day):
in total: 214 colleagues donated totally 1 712 hours

EDUCATION

We care for our employees’ development under any circumstance, even during the 1st and 2nd wave of the pandemic. We focussed not only on their professional expertise, but also on their business skills and managing work in home office mode, which many employees combined with the remote schooling of their children. We offered them courses to develop their digital literacy with an emphasis on IT security, and remembered the increased level of stress many of them were facing. For instance, we included a healthy spine course in the offer. In line with our proposals, there were regular online yoga courses initiated by the CSR department, which have continued into 2021.
What challenges has 2020 prepared for us?

Converting standard programmes into an online environment

our colleagues hereby had constant access to information and basic development; the emphasis was focused on professional and management basics for new colleagues and new managers;

support in preparing for IDD (Insurance Distribution Directive)examinations

guideline on insurance and reinsurance distribution, which is a European standard transposed into Czech legislation under Act No. 170/2018 Coll., on insurance and reinsurance distribution);

change in the form of English classes to an online environment, if desired by students,

support of colleagues when working on-line;

educational activities within the limited possibility of meeting in groups in person

remote management webinars and online courses, definition of home office rules and work with motivation.

An important novelty in our approach to education was the introduction of a catalogue of educational courses, which allows all of our colleagues to pursue professional and personal development online. The most popular topics concern work-life balance, mental hygiene, and stress management. In cooperation with the company Fpohybu, we offered employees webinars, not just to maintain a healthy spine and back. Together with our IT colleagues, we advanced the entire company’s development in IT security, starting with campaigns and subsequent education on the issue of phishing, with the aim of protecting company data, as well as private data when working from home. We filmed a welcome video for newcomers to Kooperativa in virtual reality, with the Managing Director and HR Director, through which we hope to launch a new dimension of education.

Online yoga

To support the mental and physical health of our employees even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we started organising live yoga broadcasts in October. Because the exercise routines were online, employees from across the Czech Republic could join

Online yoga has continued regularly since January 2021 and will do so until the situation around COVID-19 calms down. We then plan to expand yoga to the regions through gatherings in person.

9 live lessons

live lessons have been broadcast, with an average of 46 participants

About 52 people did the yoga lesson from playback later.

PHILANTHROPY
Kooperativa Foundation

We help balance the chances of people with health impairment or who are socially disadvantaged, and we look for ways to prevent such cases. Whether they are single parents, seniors, or people with disabilities, we always try to provide meaningful, long-term assistance.

In 2020, we realigned our funding in light of the current situation, to help non-profit organisations purchase protective and disinfectant products, and supported single parents, the senior information line, saliva testing research, and last but not least, we recognized those who were fearless and helped others during the first wave of the pandemic. In the second wave, we supported a one-day medical course for volunteers, organized by the Czech Red Cross.

Cooperation and partnership with non-profit organisations

None of our activities would be possible without partners from the non-profit sector. Thanks to them, we have the opportunity to gain insight into the issues of those who have not been so fortunate in life, as well as the tools and opportunities to support individuals and entire families and prevent further negative phenomena. The coronavirus crisis has shown the power of these partnerships.

ASISTENCE

We are a long-term partner of Asistence o.p.s., which enables people with disabilities to live independently and freely in their home environment.

Kooperativa supports a social rehabilitation programme through which 85 clients have found independent housing, work, and joined the community.

Thanks to the Asistujeme.cz campaign, 131 new assistants and volunteers have been trained.

We are a long-term partner of Asistence o.p.s., which enables people with disabilities to live independently and freely in their home environment.

TRY HEALTHY
We have newly partnered a series of healthy lifestyle programmes for schools.
Employee involvement

Kooperativa employees have played, and continue to play, an important role in our efforts to help the needy. They actively involved themselves in helping others in Prague and in the regions, as part of volunteer days, for material and financial collections and other traditional projects at the Kooperativa Foundation. The Foundation rewards all such financial collection efforts by doubling the amount collected.

A Day for a Better Life
Despite the difficult conditions in 2020, a total of 242 Kooperativa employees took advantage of their volunteer day, not only at the organisations themselves, but also remotely from home.

In 2020,
one application for
CZK 120,000 was paid out from the Fund on an ongoing basis.
Through the programme, employees can engage in financial and material assistance directly in their region.
MATERIAL COLLECTION

In October, in cooperation with ČPP and Global Assistance, the Foundation organized a material collection of women’s and men’s clothing for the Prague-based Star Bazaar, run by the Czech Paraplegic Association.

The Kooperativa Foundation organised two exhibitions in 2020. In 2020, 3,876 people visited the Kooperativa Gallery.

DIALOGUES

Until mid-February 2020, the Kooperativa Gallery hosted the exhibition titled Dialogues. The exhibition presented young artists, recent graduates, and current students of the Prague Academy, and tracked the perception of common themes among different generations of the Czech painting school. In order to achieve a dialogue, we selected works by old masters alongside individual works by the emerging generation from Kooperativa’s collections. The exhibition was seen by a total of 6,392 visitors.

JOSEF MÁNES, HIS WORK AND HIS TIME

In the autumn, the Kooperativa Gallery opened the exhibition title JOSEF MÁNES, HIS WORK AND HIS TIME to commemorate the bicentenary of Josef Mánes’s birth. It showcased his unique personality and extraordinary creative legacy. The works of Mánes’s contemporaries and the entire Mánes dynasty were not omitted. A significant part of the exhibited works were artefacts from the collections of Prague Castle from the Mánes Salon, from the collections of regional galleries, important private collections and, of course, from Kooperativa’s own collection.

The exhibition was accompanied by a book, with the most extensive collection to date of photographic documentation of drawings, preparatory sketches, and the paintings themselves. The sites of Mánes’s workplaces, archival photographs, and facsimiles of letters were also interesting artefacts. The book and exhibition were accompanied by a 30-minute film documentary, which can be viewed at www.koop.cz/galerie.

Due to government measures, the exhibition was open to the public for only eight days and was seen by a total of 645 visitors.
CZECH LANDSCAPE PAINTING FROM THE KOOPERATIVA COLLECTION

Last year, the Kooperativa Foundation, in cooperation with the Jablonec Cultural Centre and the Mánes Association, presented a collection of landscape paintings in the Church of St. Anne and in the attic of the Scheybal House. This travelling exhibition, which was launched in 2015 at the Kooperativa Gallery, has already taken place in six locations across the Czech Republic. A total of 3,231 people have viewed it.

ABOUT THE REPORT

The Report on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability 2020 was prepared after a year-long collection of relevant data, consultations with all involved parts of the insurance company, and communication with relevant stakeholders.
