CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITYAND SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
Social responsibility and sustainability are an integral part of our company's long-term strategy.
In 2023, we began an internal debate on transforming the approach to our CSR and decided to take a much more comprehensive approach to these topics. In addition to our existing activities in the area of responsibility and sustainability, we want to create a completely new sustainability strategy.
ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) is an important part of our sustainability, but we do not limit ourselves to legislative requirements and reporting. We want to introduce it reasonably and in line with our objectives.

Charter against Domestic Violence

Kooperativa, together with 15 other companies and institutions, have committed to uphold the Charter against Domestic Violence, which was presented on the 11th of December on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day.

The Charter against Domestic Violence was initiated jointly by Vodafone, IKEA and Rosa - a centre for women, under the auspices of the Government Council for Gender Equality and the Government Commissioner for Human Rights.

Currently, 16 entities are involved in this initiative, including companies, institutions and organisations that actively fight against domestic violence and provide assistance to victims, including those abused by their male or female employees. The workplace should be a safe haven for victims of domestic violence, which is why employers and colleagues play a key role in identifying the problem and providing the necessary professional support.

Kooperativa was the first insurance company to commit itself to spreading awareness of this important issue, helping employee victims and determined to create a safe work environment for all.

Awarded to Martin Laur, member of the board of Kooperativa and director of the VISION 0 Platform, for his significant contribution to driver education in the Czech Republic

„I am glad that in the 5 years since the creation of the VISION 0 Platform, we have managed to implement and support many useful projects, which were aimed at, for example, setting the parameters for new legislation on the issue of young drivers, with significant support from the Czech Insurers' Bureau damage prevention fund. Furthermore, together with the Association of driving schools, we undertook educational excursions abroad and at the same time organised a professional seminar in the Czech Republic to present the functioning of the Austrian education system for beginner drivers in Austria. I believe that these activities have helped to restart a possible reflection on the introduction of systemic changes," Martin Laur, Director of the VISION 0 Platform

Prevention
Prevention is the foundation of our strategic CSR pyramid on which all other activities are based. For us, prevention means preventing adverse situations in all areas of insurance - property and liability, personal and car insurance, and elsewhere as well.
Our flagship in the field of traffic accident prevention is the VISION 0 Platform, which aims for zero fatalities and serious injuries on Czech roads. We have participated in changes to the education of young drivers, implemented dozens of projects aimed at preventing road traffic safety and, together with the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation, financed the removal of risk factors. We continue to develop cooperation with our partners in order to increase safety on Czech roads. We have also newly involved students in our traffic prevention activities through professional internships in companies that are members of the VISION 0 Platform. Students are actively involved in working groups to address topics such as the development of virtual reality as a prevention tool, traffic space safety audits, and assistance in applying for grants to individual municipalities and regions to remove risky spots in the road traffic.
We also continued to work with small municipalities to support landscape improvements that help retain water in the landscape and protect against flooding.
VISION 0 Platform
In 2018, the Kooperativa Foundation established the VISION 0 Platform, which functions as a non-commercial community of entities that mutually support each other, coordinate projects, and share information and experience. The aim of this platform is to achieve systemic and conceptual change in the field of transport safety.

MY VISION ZERO
For the fifth time, we have carried out the MY VISION ZERO project, which is mainly aimed at university students. Out of 60 participating schools and 116 student projects, 6 were financially awarded in the final round. One of these winning projects will be further developed in 2024 and transformed into concrete proposals and recommendations for the implementation of the project Experience of traffic crisis situations and accidents in virtual reality as a prevention tool. The second award-winning project has already been successfully carried out in 2023 in cooperation with the Association of Driving Schools and the Ministry of Transport in the form of the Ethical Ten for Driving School Teachers.

We have also involved students in professional internships, specifically at the Association of Driving Schools and the State Transport Infrastructure Fund. We hope that this experience provided the students with a range of fresh knowledge and skills.
Cooperation with Škoda Auto Foundation
The VISION 0 platform has joined the ŠKODA AUTO Foundation's Traffic Safety 2023 grant call (prevention and transport infrastructure). Together, we supported a total of 9 projects in the traffic infrastructure section with the amount of 1,719,565 CZK, which will increase safety in 8 municipalities in the Mladá Boleslav, Vrchlabí and Rychnov regions. Thanks to this support, we have contributed to the creation of better conditions for cyclists, pedestrians, reduced the burden by excessive traffic in cities and reduced speeding and other risky behaviour of drivers.

In the prevention section, we supported 8 projects aimed at the education of children, adults and teaching staff in the total amount of 856,595 CZK.

In total, we have already supported 27 projects with a sum of 4,689,473 CZK in 2022 and 2023.
L17 and test driving licence
The VISION 0 Platform played a key role in the working group that prepared the L17 program (the possibility of driving under the supervision of a mentor from the age of 17) and the test driving licence (a programme for beginner drivers). The Start Driving project then helped to spread awareness of the importance of continuing driver education after driving school. Our aim is to prepare the technical, legislative and especially social ground for the realisation of the proposed change of legislation concerning Czech driver education.
Let’s Learn to Survive
The Let’s Learn to Survive project is now in its 13th season and offers 38 courses at 9 polygons in the Czech Republic. This year we introduced new courses for scooter drivers – their number is still growing, but specialised lessons have been missing so far. Another novelty is the so-called preparation for beginners and applicants for a driver's licence.
Young and beginning drivers
Even in 2023 we supported a number of projects concerning one of the riskiest groups in traffic - young and drivers-beginners.

VISION 0 Platform against the aggression on Czech roads

In 2023 we loosely followed up on the Nalaďte se s námi na cestu/Tune in with Us on the Road campaign, which was launched together with the band Čechomor in 2022, with a new campaign Don’t tune out.

The entire campaign was conducted under the domain Řitiči.cz and responded to the topic of aggression on Czech roads, which has not yet been systematically addressed. We drew on the findings of traffic psychologists who state that if a driver recognises an aggressive road participant, the likelihood of aggressive behaviour and escalation of the situation is significantly reduced. According to available statistics, aggression on the road is the cause of up to 40% of fatal traffic accidents.

As part of the campaign, we identified the most common types of aggressors and specified 6 basic archetypes - “the mice driver, the bouncer, the glue guy, the lefthander, the snail and the racer”. We also involved the public in the creation of these archetypes and thus collected more than 500 additional archetypes of aggressive drivers. We then used examples of crisis situations to show how each archetype behaves.
The campaign also included cooperation with Radio Evropa 2 with whom we created a successful competition for the public. One of the outputs was a publicly available e-learning course focused on correct reactions when encountering an aggressor on the road.

Through strong communication in media and social networks, we reached 8 million people in 2023.

Other activities
Telematics
In 2023, we continued to gain experience in telematics, which is technology that enables the evaluation of driver's behaviour on the road and the subsequent provision of feedback.
Asociace záchranný kruh/Rescue Circle Association
The Rescue Circle Association is an organisation that develops and implements a number of preventive educational projects concerning risks and dangers.
Prevention Programme for a more resilient landscape
Since 2022, we have been running a prevention programme that supports, among other things, legislative changes to strengthen the resilience of the landscape to climate change. This program unites municipalities and motivates them to actively participate in the restoration of the landscape. We fund landscape studies mapping climate change threats to selected municipalities.

Last year, during the second year of the program, we selected municipalities insured by us with a high risk of flooding. We offered these municipalities to cover the costs of feasibility studies, which are being worked on by experts from the Voda, lidé, krajina association and Krajinohled association. The studies provide an overview of potential landscape measures to reduce flood risk, including cost estimates and recommendations for obtaining grants.

As part of this program, we have also supported a meeting with the Partnership Foundation, which educated municipalities about possible measures in the countryside.

For 2024, we plan to select municipalities through an open grant which will be available to all small municipalities insured by Kooperativa.
Responsible business
For us, responsible business means having clear and open communication with all stakeholders, adhering to ethical principles conditioned by the code of ethics and investing in opportunities that bring not only financial, but also social and environmental benefits.
Mezi řádky/Between the Lines café
Since 2021, you can find the Mezi řádky café run by Etincelle in our Headquarters in Karlín. The baristas are people with mental or combined handicaps who have decided to actively participate in working life and show that they can be useful to others and themselves. Every day, this brings together the world of healthy people and people with various limitations in our café. This café with its pleasant atmosphere is accessible not only to employees but also to the public.
Managing outstanding insurance premiums
In 2023, we have managed to keep our sanity despite the general fears about economic and geopolitical developments. The catastrophic scenarios talking about a large number of our clients in solvency problems have de facto not been confirmed. Succumbing to such a narrative would mean, among other things, taking a fundamentally tougher approach to managing receivables, which would undoubtedly have a negative impact on our long-term relationship with our clients. This does not mean that we have not registered cases of clients in need, however, if they have asked us to find a suitable solution, we have always accommodated them to the best of our ability. This fact only confirms that about three quarters of cases of recovery of outstanding insurance premiums take place exclusively between us and the client, without the intervention of the court or even the bailiff. The client always comes first, even when managing claims.

Inno Days, an event that opens its doors to all curious employees of VIG CZ, has been running continuously since 2019, 1-3 times a year. At these meetings, we present and critically evaluate news from the world of insurance, as well as modern technologies and trends such as artificial intelligence, electromobility or the sharing economy. Together with experts and the audience, we reflect on how these innovations can impact our business, aiming not only to inform but also to inspire, encourage thinking and birth courage to innovate.

In 2023, Inno Days focused on the theme of artificial intelligence in insurance - Where the world is and where we are.
As part of our new collaboration with Resistant AI, a company specialising in financial crime prevention using artificial intelligence and machine learning, we are using Document Forensics technology. This tool helps us to verify documents submitted by clients as part of the claims process. It allows us to review documents more quickly and accurately and detect fraud that would be hard to spot for the human eye.

Transkript

Since 2020, we have been working with Transkript online to help us transcribe calls with our hearing impaired clients online. Since then, we have handled over 500 calls in this way. We now have another innovation in the way we communicate - translation from/into Czech sign language.
Health prevention
In 2023, we established cooperation with the Loono organisation, which became the expert guarantor of Kooperativa's health prevention website. We educate not only our employees and clients, but also the general public about the importance of health prevention and the importance of compliance with preventive medical examinations. We created a video for those who are already dealing with a serious health problem in cooperation with the non-profit organisation Pro Gaudia.

We have also participated in the Pink October campaign, which raises awareness about prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.

ECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

When we talk about sustainability, we are not only referring to the sustainability of natural resources and the impact on the environment. We have also long focused on sustainability values such as fairness, transparency and compliance with European and domestic regulatory conditions.

When we talk about sustainability, we are not only referring to the sustainability of natural resources and the impact on the environment. We have also long focused on sustainability values such as fairness, transparency and compliance with European and domestic regulatory conditions.

Ecology

Although we are not a manufacturing company that directly harms the environment through our activities, we are mindful of the impact we have on our surroundings. In the long term, we aim to minimise the ways we negatively impact the environment, whether it is through the operation of buildings, vehicles or the activities of our employees. We are looking for environmentally friendly solutions in many areas, in particular focusing on the ecological management of our buildings, the management of IT technology, the use of flood maps in property insurance and the environmentally friendly repair of vehicles after traffic accidents.
Carbon footprint
Since 2018, we have had our carbon footprint measured. This figure tells us how much greenhouse gases Kooperativa emits directly and indirectly into the environment. We measure our carbon footprint according to the internationally recognised GHG Protocol standard, in the Scope 1-3 range. At the same time, the measurement is processed in an auditable manner, which ensures transparency of the results and the possibility of further data verification.

In 2023, Kooperativa generated 7.43 MWh of electricity in its photovoltaic systems, which was used in its buildings.

In 2023 Kooperativa produced 40 469 t CO2e*

Compared to 2022, the Services and Investments categories, which represent a significant part of the Kooperativa's overall carbon footprint, have been newly included. If we exclude these categories and keep the calculation scope as in 2022, the Kooperativa's total emissions for 2023 would be 14,630 t of CO2e.

Comparison with 2022
The impact of our activities on CO2e production

Scope 1 includes emissions from transport, heating and fugitive emissions.

Scope 2 is made up of emissions from purchased electricity and heat.

Scope 3 includes the categories Purchases of materials and services, Purchases of capital goods, Indirect emissions from Scope 1&2, Waste from corporate activities, Employee business travel, Employee commuting, Leases and Investments.

Calculating the carbon footprint and adjusting it correctly helps us to set and manage the decarbonisation of our own operations and other Kooperativa activities.

Circularity in car insurance
Save Food initiative
Electronics
Our discarded but still functional IT equipment serves a good purpose. Firstly, we offer it to our employees for purchase, and we also donate some of the discarded equipment to schools, non-profit organisations or orphanages. We donated 122 pieces of IT equipment in 2023. Almost 1,400 pieces were disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner in cooperation with REMA System, which takes care of the professional disposal and recycling of electrical equipment. By doing so, we have prevented the equipment from piling up in landfills or being incinerated, while allowing components from said equipment to be put back into circulation.
Circularity in car insurance
Our company puts an emphasis on ecology even when repairing vehicles after accidents. When the situation allows for it, we prefer repairs to replacements with new parts. This includes, for example, minor repairs to hail-damaged sheet metal parts or repairing windshield cracks. We did this in more than 1,400 cases in 2023, saving valuable natural resources that would have otherwise been spent on making new parts.
Save Food initiative
Last year, in cooperation with the Save Food initiative, we donated a total of 3,103 meals to those in need from our cafeteria, which we shared with Česká podnikatelská pojišťovna/insurance company. The donated food from the cafeteria goes to the St. Therese Asylum House for Mothers and their Children in Karlín.

Sustainability

For us, sustainability is not just about caring for the environment or responding to the climate crisis. We see the environmental context in terms of products or employee training. We also strive to be sustainable in our finances, investments and communication with our clients. We carefully consider all regulations, follow the latest developments in legislation and comply with all requirements.
The Green product
When creating the new FLEXI 21 life insurance product, we also thought about the sustainability of our financial services. As part of the investment option of the insurance, it is possible to invest in ERSTE RESPONSIBLE BOND or ERSTE WWF STOCK ENVIRONMENT green funds, in accordance with Articles 8 and 9 of the EU Regulation 2019/2088. Our customers can thus choose an investment method that is environmentally friendly and fair to society or even directly contributes to their protection.

We support

Women Managers Club
We support female managers and employees with managerial potential. We create networks of female managers across different regions and provide a space to share experiences and address challenges that are unique to each workplace and each team. At the 2023 Women Managers Club meeting, members discussed topics such as age management, the proportion of women in management and safe environments for employees.
SEN Club
We remain in regular contact with more than 500 former colleagues after their retirement. We organise joint meetings for them, where we inform them about new developments in our insurance company, share the know-how of our former colleagues and enjoy a joint cultural programme. More than 100 seniors from all over the country regularly attend these meetings.
You Are Out There Somewhere - Parents on parental and maternity leave
At Kooperativa, family and work go hand in hand. Every parent who goes on parental leave receives a letter from the CEO inviting them to join a closed Facebook group called "You Are Out There Somewhere - Parents on parental and maternity leave". Thanks to this group, we can stay in touch with those on parental and maternity leave, share with them current events and news from our company, and communicate the benefits to which they are entitled - travel insurance at reduced price, discounts on hotel stays or discounts on cultural and leisure activities. We work with organisations such as Úsměv mámy/Smile of mommy and Máma Job. These organisations provide parents with tips and advice for mental well-being and educational workshops.

Flexibility

We make sure that all our employees can enjoy a wide range of opportunities to balance their professional and personal lives. Employees can take advantage of home office working arrangements and further time off in addition to their holidays. We offer both professional and personal development opportunities, as well as a range of internal or external training tools such as language training, soft skills courses, online webinars and regular IT security training.

Kooperativa Foundation

The Kooperativa Foundation primarily supports organisations that promote systemic change on a societal level. We work together on the basis of long-term partnerships, with an emphasis on prevention, especially in the field of mental health. An important part of our support is dignified living of people with disabilities in their home environment, seniors and other vulnerable groups. Employees are also involved in our activities.

Cooperation and partnership

All activities would not be possible without the support of our partners in the non-profit sector. They help us understand problems of those who are less fortunate. They also give us the tools and opportunities to support individuals as well as entire families and prevent further difficulties.

We want people with disabilities to be able to live free and fulfilled lives, which is why we support organisations like Asistence/Assistance, Silou hlasu/The Power of Voice and Pomocné tlapky/Helping Paws. Our prevention project in the field of supporting people with disabilities is BanalFatal!, a programme created by the Czech Paraplegic Association. In the field of mental health, we cooperate with the Nevypusť duši/Don’t Let Go of the Soul organisation, which also deals with prevention. In the field of mental health, we cooperate with the Don’t Let Go of the Soul organisation, as well as with the Sluchátko/Telephone receiver Therapeutic Line and other organisations.

Open grant - Support for psychotherapeutic services for low-threshold facilities

In cooperation with the Czech Streetwork Association, we supported 16 organisations that provide psychotherapeutic and crisis intervention activities in low-threshold facilities for children and youth. 1.4 million CZK was distributed for the implementation of this important work.

We support systemic improvements that change the lives of people with disabilities for the better. We have completed a year-long pilot project: Pátý stupeň/Fifth Degree, which provided essential assistance to five people with severe disabilities. This project also included an impact study, a Czech Television documentary and a conference in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament.

As a result of this effort, a new non-subsidy title was introduced whereby assistance providers can apply for funding for assistance in excess of 80 hours per client. In addition, the project has succeeded in advocating for an increase in care allowances for those living in their natural home environment. We expect a major system change in January 2025 which will bring further opportunities and new improvements.

The Sluchátko Therapeutic Helpline is a platform for free anonymous telephone support and psychotherapeutic services. These services are for those who are feeling unwell, do not have access to psychotherapeutic care or are looking for a way to cope with their problems.

Approximately 3,500 hours of free therapy are provided annually thanks to the support of the Kooperativa Foundation.

Preparations are currently underway for a nationwide change in the conditions for the provision of psychotherapy, which would allow for the inclusion of over-the-phone psychotherapy amongst official social services.

Pomocné tlapky/Helping Paws, an organisation for training assistance dogs, has been supported by Kooperativa for a long time. During 2023, 11 assistance dogs were placed in care of new owners. Two canistherapy weekends were held and a graduation ceremony for the dogs took place on Kooperativa premises.

Seemingly trivial injuries can have fatal consequences. We are a partner of the BanalFatal! programme for preventing spine and spinal cord injuries. We supported the production of an awareness and prevention 3D animation video that shows the fragility of the spine and spinal cord and the consequences of possible injuries.

In 2023, 115 lectures were held, attended by nearly 5,000 students.

We're not afraid to talk about mental health and show you how to care for it. We support programs that help schools create an environment where mental health is talked about. We are a partner of the 'Let's listen to children when they talk to us' campaign.

Over the past year, we have continued to develop Terrapino, a pioneering mobile app in the field of Alzheimer's detection and prevention, in partnership with AlzheimerChain. This app is designed to provide users with information, support them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reward them for their efforts. It treats users individually and offers solutions and advice on diagnosis and treatment.
In the next phase, together with AlzheimerChain, we intend to focus on providing services in the areas of prevention and healthy lifestyle, access to medical care for Alzheimer's disease and to expand the range of attractive rewards for users who are active in the programme.
Employee engagement

Kooperativa employees have played and continue to play an important role in our efforts to help those in need. Every year, we are actively involved in helping others and local communities in Prague and other regions through volunteer days (Day for a better life) and material or financial collections.

Corporate Volunteering Program

Every employee has the opportunity to use one day a year for volunteering activities. In 2023, a total of 1,527 colleagues donated their Day for a better life to non-profit organisations caring for the environment, social care providers for people with disabilities, children or the elderly, as well as to community activities in small municipalities or districts. This year, we had record participation and supported a total of 99 organisations.

The Good Neighbour programme brings together ideas on how Kooperativa and its foundation can be useful in places where it operates - i.e. across regions. This assistance takes various forms: from material collections, financial contributions to long-term partnerships. Life is all about human stories and situations that cannot be predicted and in which we appreciate a helping hand.

For the year 2023, colleagues organised a total of 17 fundraisers and 7 charity breakfast events and donated a total of 1.3 million CZK together with the Foundation's multiplier.

The charity project Tree for a Better Life, which is traditionally part of the pre-Christmas period, was held for the 14th time and once again brought joy to non-profit organisations and their clients.

Thanks to the generous contributions from Kooperativa and Global Assistance employees, who together donated 647 252 CZK, and the supplement of the Kooperativa Foundation in the amount of CZK 306 997, we were able to fulfil the Christmas wishes of 18 organisations and one person for a total of almost 1 million CZK. 733 of our colleagues contributed to the success of this collection.

Join us for breakfast - charity breakfasts
A total of seven charity breakfasts were held in the past year. The Kooperativa Foundation doubles all the proceeds from "Join us for breakfast", which enabled us to donate a total of 585 432 CZK in 2023.
